Viral Radio Festival 2008

To celebrate one year of bass and beats experimentation, Juha and Cinnaman set up the first Viral Radio Festival on Monday 23 June 2008 at the Bimhuis and 11 in Amsterdam. With a line up consisting of a large group of the most idiosyncratic beats and bass producers from London, Berlin and Los Angeles, this festival wanted to connect club and concert hall, body and brain, the extravertive and the introspective.
At the Bimhuis, Berlin vanguard musicians Moritz von Oswald, Vladislav Delay and Max Loderbauer (the Moritz von Oswald trio) were joined by the British post-jungle freetronica pioneers Ollie Bown and Sam Britton (Icarus) in their exploration of rhythmstructures and synthesised sound. L.A. based Take and Dutchman Pete Concrete played beats in the adjacent bar.
At 11, Hyperdub heavy weights Kode9 and King Midas Sound brought the next generation of bass ‘n bleeps producers Zomby, Darkstar and Ikonika from London, with Ras G and Samiyam adding some El Aylian love, and Dutch producer Martyn injecting his technodub.
The Viral Radio Festival took place at the Bimhuis between 9 pm and 1 am, and at 11 between 11 pm and 5 am. This was the first and only time in their mutual existence these two venues collaborated, as 11 closed that week.
