Listen to Rustie’s Essential Mix. End of message.

Glaswegian producer/DJ Russell Whyte, aka Rustie is this week’s Essential Mixer.

He burst out of Glasgow’s Numbers party crew alongside the likes of Hudson Mohawk and Jackmaster.

Rustie is signed to the legendary Warp Records and he’s also released music on labels like Hyperdub and Stuff Records. He’s remixed Modeselektor and Jamie Lidell. And he scooped the Guardian’s ‘First Album Award’ late last year for his stunning debut ‘Glass Swords’ which features the single Surph.

New genres of electronic dance music follow each other like night follows day. Radiant Frequencies is a festival exhibition of cutting-edge musicians building bright synthetic structures of radiating dance music. This the soundtrack of the world of high definition gaming, 3D superheroes and superliminal neutrinos. And with zeitgeist-riders like Rustie, Kuedo and Dorian Concept, it is a who-is-who of the now.

Total recall: Dabrye ‘Two/Three’ (Ghostly, 2006). Dabrye is one of the originators of early 21st century rap and beat futurism. His Two/Three album paved the way for the likes of Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Dabrye has been on top of our wishlist for years now, and we hope he will make it over to Amsterdam one day.

FACT magazine highlights Rewire Festival, in which Viral Radio participates on 4 and 5 November in the Hague:
