After last year’s very popular and widely acclaimed album ‘Severant’, Kuedo returns with this emotionally epic, dancefloor detonator of a track from the same sessions.
The Planet Mu labelmates collaborate ahead of their respective EP and album releases, creating a video wrought with anxiety regarding a technology takeover. An interview with the two on Dazed Digital.
Not sure what it is, but there’s an intense organic warmth to everything Solar Bears makes. It’s a pretty common sentiment to refer to electronic music as “warm” or “organic,” but it really applies for “Cosmic Runner,” a track that sounds like some dude from the 1970′s vision of what the future would be like. We feel like we should be listening to this from inside a domed terrarium or zooming down an ultra-clean highway in a car made out of bubbles or something. A new track from Irish Viral Radio alumni Solar Bears has appeared on Soundcloud. It is titled Cosmic Runner. Solar Bears are rumoured to being close to finishing a follow-up to their 2010 technicolor Planet Mu release She Was Coloured In. We look forward to welcoming the Dublin duo back to the Netherlands soon.
Planet Mu has released ‘Da Mind of Traxman’ today. Cornelius Ferguson a.k.a. Traxman is from the west side of Chicago and one of the longest serving producers working in footwork with releases stretching back to the glory days of ghetto house on Dance Mania records in the nineties. He’s also one of the co-founders of Chicago’s two-decades-old Geto DJz clique and a member of DJ Rashad & DJ Spinn’s Ghetto Teknitianz and was one of the creators of the legendary mixtapes on coloured cassettes which were the prototype for footwork’s evolution.

“The emotive futurist rhetoric and aesthetic of Kuedo’s excellent ‘Severant’ album is the inspiration for this selection. Released on Planet Mu, the former Vex’d man’s solo debut LP is a hyper-fused celebration of classic sci-fi synth music, Footwork and modern Rap, assimilating characteristics of all three into a vivid, futurist fantasy headspace. If you’ve not already copped the album (out this week) we recommend you do so quicksharp, or at the very least check Kuedo’s definitive mix for Fact Magazine, but for comparative, contemporary listening there’s some nuggets in here which you don’t want to miss. On a Footwork and Juke bent there’s Rashad & BMT’s amazing remix of Emika and the hyper-soul of DJ Diamond, plus excellent outsider augmentations from Dam Mantle and Machinedrum. For the Crunk agenda, you’ll find butter cuts like Lunice’s ‘Juice’ and the cold, rollin’ fusions of Desto and Om Unit, next to more curious hybrids of Synth-Pop and R&B from the likes of Holy Other, Miracle, and Balam Acab. Then, of course, there’s two originals from Kuedo to whet your appetite, the heart-in-mouth calculations of ‘Ascension Phase’ and his glorious KMS remix, with a conclusion from one of the original synthesizer futurists, Tangerine Dream and Kluster co-founder, Conrad Schnitzler (RIP).” (14tracks.com)
