Ikonika (Hyperdub/London)
Female representative of the Hyperdub record label, London’s most iconic sound after the Big Ben. “From the vantage point offered by her first album, you can trace the distinctive quality of Sara Abdel-Hamid’s productions all the way from her debut 12-inch, 2008’s Please. But while her four releases to date have all boasted unusual hooks that snag your attention, parts of Contact, Want, Love, Have feature synth-painted soundscapes into which it’s possible to disappear completely.” BBC

Viral Radio
Viral Radio is a music network working out of Amsterdam that connects the nodes between the ever-changing forms of electronic rhythmculture. Viral Radio operates as vehicle for investigating hyperrhythms, bass experiments and computer improvisations, and as map of the various contemporary music practices. In 2010, it hosts stages at renowned festivals as North Sea Jazz (Rotterdam) and Exit Festival (Novi Sad).
2 July
On Friday 2 July, Viral Radio invites London hyperrhythm prodigy Slugabed, who has received critical acclaim from the likes of ex Vex’d frontman Kuedo and Planet Mu founder Mike Paradinas. He will be joined by Australian Dizz1, whose metallic scifi productions sound like the kind of music Sentinels in the Matrix would listen to on their iPods. Both musicians will make their Viral Radio debut. They are joined by Viral Radio residents and hosts Juha and Cinnaman.
TrouwAmsterdam
Viral Radio takes place every first Friday of the month at Amsterdam’s superclub TrouwAmsterdam, located on the regenerating Wibautstraat just east of the centre of Amsterdam. Visit http://trouwamsterdam.nl for more information. Tickets are 12 euros, but if you come before 11 PM, entrance is free.
