Viral Radio has had an incredible run of events in the last month, with a sold out Amsterdam Dance Event pandemonium and a roadtrip to Nijmegen with Gaslamp Killer and Nosaj Thing. We are very grateful for all these musicians playing at our events, and very fortunate to have such a following (i.e. you) to make this all happen. So thank you.
Now pass me the Butter. This Friday Viral Radio is proud to present the Dutch release of the new album ‘Butter’ of one of the most impressive young producers in the field of gravity defying electronic music: Hudson Mohawke. This half Amsterdammer of Glaswegian descent has been signed to Sheffield’s Warp Records, and is part of an international conspiracy of Scottish musicians. How else would you explain the succes of Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Kode9, who play their video games backwards and microwave ’80s music to create the most idiosyncratic information bubbles we have ever heard?
So we hope you will come this Friday, and won’t tell us in the future how sorry you are you missed it. We still lie awake at night from what happened last time at the Bimhuis in May 2008 with Flying Lotus. Speaking of which, Lotus’ close friend Ras G is also on the line up. Ras is a key figure in the Brainfeeder camp in Los Angeles, and has been touring throughout Asia, Africa and Europe recently. We are very happy to have him at Viral Radio for a special live set.
Timetable:
20.30 – 22.30 CDR
22.30 – 00.00 Juha
00.00 – 01.00 Mamiko Motto
01.00 – 02.00 Ras G live
02.00 – 03.30 Hudson Mohawke live
03.30 – 05.00 Cinnaman

Mark Pritchard, aka Harmonic 313
According to Time Out Amsterdam, Viral Radio is ‘the most cutting-edge event in Amsterdam, hands down.’ The electronic music vehicle of Non-fiction’s Juha van ‘t Zelfde, in close harmony with DJ/producer/Beat Dimensions architect Cinnaman (Yuri Boselie), has been gathering momentum in 2009. The nights have featured lords of the underground Kode9 & the Spaceape, Flying Lotus and Joker, and many more in their slipstream.
The coming month, the carrier of freight train bass weight will present another stellar compendium of contemporary studio explorations:
02 October >> Harmonic 313 and Juha & Cinnaman
21 October >> Knalpot, Gaslamp Killer, Clark, Bibio, Martyn, Aardvarck, Pete Concrete and Juha & Cinnaman
06 November >> Hudson Mohawke, Lorn, Ras G and Juha & Cinnaman
We would like to thank the artists for their participation, TrouwAmsterdam for the inspiring collaboration, and you – the visitor and listener – for your support. We hope to see you tonight.

On an average Tuesday in Amsterdam 2,055 bikes get stolen. This happened last Tuesday, and this will happen next Tuesday. What is different though on 21 October, is that the prolific Santa Monica producer and Ninja Tune progeny Daedelus will perform at SMART Project Space on the first Viral Radio event since the festival in June, at the Bimhuis and 11. Daedelus – real name Alfred Darlington – was so cordial to answer a few questions and give a top 11 of his current favourites.
Juha van ‘t Zelfde What do you think of the current crisis on Wall Street? Does this affect your work as a musician?
Daedelus The current crisis will have concequenses, but they may be strangely good: people always become more passionate about music during a recession; sales actually tend to increase. Also there is no retirement plan for musicians like myself so sadly no problem!
JZ What are your thoughts on the political campaigns of Democrats and Republicans? Would you write a song for either party?
D Haha! I did! It was very well recieved, check it out on Youtube under Obama Way so you can guess who I am voting for…
JZ If we would look at your music with Darwinian eyes, what makes it survive?
D Good will and constant evolution (the Darwinian answer); sitting still will get you eaten by another, always better to tell the story of moving on.
JZ Are you feeling a global power shift from West to East?
D Yes in fact, touring recently in China really opened my eyes to the changes underfoot. America is so difficult for culture, perhaps a wake up call is in order. All the US does is think of ideas. Perhaps we should reward these inovations.
JZ What can we expect from your Amsterdam show?
D It all depends on what you bring: want to party and we’ll party, want to cry and we’ll cry together. I think the same can be said from Daddy Kev except he is bring firepower! Maybe I’ll try so too.
JZ Thank you.
D Thank you, and best until!

Something new, but perhaps not a bad idea: let’s drop names of artists we are currently listening too and working with before they appear on flyers or on the show. This is the first installment, and of course most of you will know the names we name. However, if you do not know them, then this is one good archive to find music of our age.
