Viral Radio introduces Hyperrhythm at North Sea Jazz Festival this Friday: Dimlite, Hudson Mohawke, Dorian Concept, Mike Slott, Cinnaman and Juha. In 2006, Viral Radio started out as a radio show covering dubstep on Dutch public radio. Four years later, it has become part of an international network of the beat-driven electronic music vanguard. At North Sea Jazz Festival, Hyperrhythm tries to represent the whole spectrum of frequencies and speeds currently controlling dance floors around the world.
Ras G, Darkstar and Knalpot are the first names we would like to announce for the third edition of the annual Viral Radio Festival. They will play live at the Bimhuis on Saturday 4 September.
The Viral Radio Festival is an annual celebration of live electronic music and DJ culture that takes place at the Bimhuis and TrouwAmsterdam, from turbo soul to hyperrhythm. Previous editions hosted such musicians as Kode9, Moritz von Oswald, Samiyam, Icarus, Hudson Mohawke, Daedelus and many more. This year the festival will take place from 2-4 September.
After weeks of secretiveness and diplomacy, the moment has come that we can finally announce our programme for the North Sea Jazz Festival 2010. The festival is widely acknowledged as the one of the biggest jazz festivals in the world, and has a strong reputation for showcasing many different areas of jazz and improvised music from all eras. Viral Radio is outlandishly honoured to host its own stage.
From the press release:
In the past few years in various cities around the world, scenes of musicians have popped up with a heightened interest in complex rhythmstructures of changing speeds and intensities. These hyperrhythms are created by producers who have grown up in an ocean of sound of ubiquitous media, from computer games to iPhones, and who are connected through a myriad of online networks. More than once, these producers know the hardware and software better than their developers, mutating into architects of complex, gravity-defying structures.
Cities as Los Angeles, Glasgow and London are their main protagonists, with labels as Brainfeeder, LuckyMe and Warp. In Amsterdam, Viral Radio has been active as a vehicle for the dissemination of these new electronic musics since 2007, with regular programmes at Trouw and the Bimhuis.
After last night’s monster night with Hudson Mohawke and Ras G, Viral Radio continues its weekend space travels and goes one level deeper in De Verdieping during the Amsterdam museumnacht. A special afterparty from 12 to 5 with Hudson Mohawke, Mamiko Motto, and Juha & Cinnaman. Hudson Mo and Mamiko Mo both joined Cinnaman today in the studio for a new episode of Viral Radio on VPRO 3voor12.
So we hope you will come this Friday, and won’t tell us in the future how sorry you are you missed it. We still lie awake at night from what happened last time at the Bimhuis in May 2008 with Flying Lotus. Speaking of which, Lotus’ close friend Ras G is also on the line up. Ras is a key figure in the Brainfeeder camp in Los Angeles, and has been touring throughout Asia, Africa and Europe recently. We are very happy to have him at Viral Radio for a special live set.
