"The most cutting-edge event in Amsterdam, hands down."

"Thank you Viral motherfucking Radio."

The French artist and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Bastien will replace the British trio Darkstar at the Bimhuis on day 2 of the Viral Radio Festival. Due to family matters Darkstar have had to cancel their performance. Naturally, we respect their decision, and wish them all the best in the coming days. Darkstar will now play on a new Viral Radio night at the Bimhuis on Friday 14 January. Pierre Bastien is a regular support act of Squarepusher, and has released work on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label. The line up on Saturday consists of Ras G, Knalpot, Juha and Cinnaman.

Knalpot (Eat Concrete/Amsterdam)
Improvising casiorock duo that resembles the electronic textures of Fennesz and the rhythmic patterns of Dimlite, without booting a laptop.

This Week’s Tip
Viral Radio Festival, 3 and 4 September in Amsterdam
“The Viral Radio network has been a frontrunner at programming and bringing together innovative electronic music for years. This year they were part of North Sea Jazz and Lowlands. Coming weekend it is time for their own festival, in two different locations. On Friday 3 September, Gonjasufi will be the headliner of the club night at Trouw (the former main office of this newspaper). A day later at the Bimhuis the focus will be on artists that are moving towards improvised music.”
Darkstar (Hyperdub/London)
Emotive bass music that is as patient in its structure as it is imaginative in its texture.
“The sense you get is that the human, physical world has revolved ever so slightly out of reach. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.” / The Guardian
“As their first long player, Darkstar have produced an album many bands with many more releases and experience under their belt can only dream of. Elegant, downbeat, breezy, sometimes melancholy and bleak, sometimes optimistic, ‘North’ will surprise many, a classic record for short days and long nights.” / Kode9

Plus (Sonic Warfare/Amsterdam)
Young journeyman of brain-tingling electronica, resident DJ at Sonic Warfare and Lockdown in Amsterdam.

LD (Hyperdub/London)
Master craftsman of acetate cutting and cutting edge authority of bass music, deeply embedded in Kode9 territories.
