It is the first Friday of the month and that means it is time for a walk in your operating system. Listen to the tingles of your tweets and to the rhythm of your RAM. It is time for Viral Radio, your friendly neighbourhood electronic music evangelist, inviting you to believe in the power of digital frequencies.
On this month’s edition we present two artists we have been following for years and years: Dimlite and Jamie Vex’d. Swiss born Dimlite (Dimitri Grimm, 1980) is a master of mosaic textures and imaginative drum patterns. He is one of the most admired artists of his generation and a distinguished performer. His concerts at the Bimhuis in 2008 and 2009 rank among the best given there in the past few years. Englishman Jamie Vex’d (Jamie Teasdale, 1979) has gained critical acclaim as experimental dubstep duo Vex’d. They released the album Degenerate on Planet Mu in 2005, a prescient example of forward thinking bass music. Jamie has released solo works that are closer related to the video game and science fiction cartoons aesthetic of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. He has created the new avatar Kuedo, that will release its first tracks within weeks. It is already one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
Viral Radio is delighted to present these two gentlemen of artists at TrouwAmsterdam tonight. They are transformers of their time, musical androids from another galaxy. The evening starts at 22:30, and tickets are 12 euros. As always, Viral Radio hosts Juha and Cinnaman will play their music straight out of the package. We look forward to welcoming you.

A few months ago we asked our good friend Aardvarck, if he was given the chance to invite someone for Viral Radio, who he would choose. “Mala,” was his immediate answer, followed by an endless stream of unintelligible animal noises, “hoer” and “zijn we er al?” Mala will now play alongside Aardvarck, Cinnaman and Juha at the sixth Viral Radio event at TrouwAmsterdam. He will be joined by his friend, brother-from-another-mother and fellow demilitarized zone pacifist Sgt. Pokes.
In the evening, starting around 8 PM, Viral Radio will present the second CDR night. Adopted from London, the night is intended to create a social network, platform or hub for aspiring producers, avid supporters and kindred spirits who enjoy new ventures into electronic music. Hosted by Juha, Cinnaman and Mamiko Motto, a line of guests will be interviewed about their music practice, amongst whom Mr. Aardvarck himself. Visitors can bring their music on CDRs, which then will be played on our professional club soundsystem, while their names and track titles will be beamed on the wall.
CDR has been adopted by De Verdieping as a monthly night to share ideas and music. It has been transferred from the Wednesday to the Friday, to connect with Viral Radio and to benefit from the presence of international artists as Hudson Mohawke, Mala, Nosaj Thing, Harmonic 313, and all the others that come through the Viral Radio hub.
Viral Radio starts at 10.30 PM. Tickets are 12 euros, and are available at Rush Hour, online and at the door of TrouwAmsterdam. CDR starts at 8 PM. Tickets are 5 euros, but entrance is free of charge with a CDR of your music. Visitors of CDR can stay for Viral Radio without paying any more.

Tonight the fourth Viral Radio will take place at Trouw Amsterdam. After Kode9 & the Spaceape, Clark, Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer and Samiyam, we now have the purple wow from Bristol: Joker. His music sounds like a game of rummikub between Timbaland and Da Dogg Pound on board Steve Zissou’s Belafonte.
Tickets are still available at the door for 10 euros. Come along, you are welcome.

A surprise encounter between Alfred and Juha recently at the Lloyd Hotel
This is not an official Viral Radio event but since one of us is doing bits and pieces of live electronic music concerts here and there in Amsterdam, we thought you might be interested. And since you seemed to like the Brainfeeder attack last Friday, knowing that another artist from that Los Angeles pedigree is visiting Amsterdam hardly seems a burden.
Therefore we would like to invite you for this Wednesday at De Verdieping where two of the kindest people of electronic music will be performing live: Daedelus and Pierre Bastien. The former hails from Santa Monica, played bassoon and clarinet before solitarily enjoying rave music at a young age, and participating in the development of one of the sleekest music devices known to man, the Monome. The latter is a French composer, multi-instrumentalist and literature Phd from Rotterdam, idolised by Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and Icarus, who constructs his own landscapes of automated music machines, forming an orchestra of kinetic instruments.
Bastien will premier new work, while Daedelus will talk about the Monome. This event takes place in the underground basement of Trouw Amsterdam. Doors open at 8.30 PM, and admission is a mere 8 euros. Here are the links for Last FM and Facebook. We hope to see you there.

Every first Friday of the month Viral Radio takes over Trouw Amsterdam. After the Brainfeeder takeover of yesterday, with a vicious Gaslamp Killer, a Doggpound-meets-Nintendo Samiyam and a the new-and-improved-never-going-under-150-BPM Flying Lotus, it is time for two signature producers and outstanding bass music innovators: Joker and Coki. The former is a 19 year old from Bristol whose music is released by genre-defying label Hyperdub, the latter the architect of multiple mutations of dubstep’s identity. Both have earned their credentials as unique individuals in the recent English experimental bass music scene.
We look forward to their coming, joined by DMZ host MC Sgt. Pokes. And we hope to greet you next month at Trouw.

Despite the fact almost everyone at Trouw last night was there for Warp prodigy and Amsterdam favourite Flying Lotus, it is fair to state that there was one man who deserves the credit for the massacre on the dance floor: the mother%*&^#@ Gaslamp Killer. Samiyam and Flying Lotus played diverse sets of electricity-laden broken beats of varying speeds and moods, while Viral Radio residents Cinnaman and Juha added agility and depth with abstract dubstep and hyped up speedbeats. Have a look at the 21 videos on YouTube, and these pictures taken by Rosa Koolhoven on Flickr and relive the agony.
Thank you very much Brainfeeder family – Flying Lotus, Samiyam and the Gaslamp Killer – for making this epic. Thanks everyone for your support, we hope to see you next month at the next Viral Radio with Joker and Coki.
