Viral Radio endorses Beat Dimensions at the Bimhuis
No more dead bodies in former anatomic lab

I would like to start with an apology to those whom I told this would not be a party. This was outrageous. On a Tuesday evening our two friends from Los Angeles Alfred and Kev dropped by with a bag full of beats and a box covered with lights. Daddy Kev and Daedelus made our brains tingle, in a place with a history of autopsy. “Don’t be dead bodies,” as Daedelus so cunningly put it.
SMART Project Space is situated in a former anatomic laboratory, and has recently opened as multidisciplinary arts space. Viral Radio has been asked to kick off the music programme, and we anticipate a wonderful continuation. Thanks to those who were there, we look forward to the museumnacht after party on 1 November.
What are your thoughts?

“Want to cry, we’ll cry together.” A short interview with Daedelus

On an average Tuesday in Amsterdam 2,055 bikes get stolen. This happened last Tuesday, and this will happen next Tuesday. What is different though on 21 October, is that the prolific Santa Monica producer and Ninja Tune progeny Daedelus will perform at SMART Project Space on the first Viral Radio event since the festival in June, at the Bimhuis and 11. Daedelus - real name Alfred Darlington - was so cordial to answer a few questions and give a top 11 of his current favourites.
Juha van ‘t Zelfde What do you think of the current crisis on Wall Street? Does this affect your work as a musician?
Daedelus The current crisis will have concequenses, but they may be strangely good: people always become more passionate about music during a recession; sales actually tend to increase. Also there is no retirement plan for musicians like myself so sadly no problem!
JZ What are your thoughts on the political campaigns of Democrats and Republicans? Would you write a song for either party?
D Haha! I did! It was very well recieved, check it out on Youtube under Obama Way so you can guess who I am voting for…
JZ If we would look at your music with Darwinian eyes, what makes it survive?
D Good will and constant evolution (the Darwinian answer); sitting still will get you eaten by another, always better to tell the story of moving on.
JZ Are you feeling a global power shift from West to East?
D Yes in fact, touring recently in China really opened my eyes to the changes underfoot. America is so difficult for culture, perhaps a wake up call is in order. All the US does is think of ideas. Perhaps we should reward these inovations.
JZ What can we expect from your Amsterdam show?
D It all depends on what you bring: want to party and we’ll party, want to cry and we’ll cry together. I think the same can be said from Daddy Kev except he is bring firepower! Maybe I’ll try so too.
JZ Thank you.
D Thank you, and best until!

Dubstep is dood. Leve beats, hyperdub, aquacrunk, nuum…

Om te vieren dat dubstep dood is organiseert Sonic Warfare aanstaande vrijdag een feestje. Kom je ook?
Viral Radio presenteert Daedelus live in SPS
